Further thought, Phil. If you find that you are stuck for earlier origins these may of course be over the border in Rads; but also in Monts. There was a substantial family of Hodson / Hudson in Tregynon and nearby, often designated as gents (though in Wales that style often suffered from semantic inflation). I know that the forename George reoccurs - the name of "your" Richard's father. Bill Barker has a section on them (under Hodson) in his cd of "Families of Montgomeryshire". An early one, a George, was in 1662 or so then of Lea, parish of Bishops Castle. As regards Rads, he has (via Mr T E Gwynne's marriage index) a reference to a marriage on 8.4.1812 at Llandinam of Samuel Hodson, then of Knighton. IGI of couse is u/s for Wales pre 1813.
