Mike, thank you so much, it makes perfect sense now! Now I know that it was a baptism not a date of birth everything else has fallen into place. Thanks again for all your help and invaluable information it really is appreciated Regards Carl In response to: Hello Carl Joseph Richard RICHARDS was baptised at Leaton (near Bomere Heath) on 12 July 1874 and appears to be the eldest of three children of Joseph and Mary RICHARDS of Bomere Heath, Labourer. The other children are:- Esther Eliza bap. 7 Jan 1876 and John Robert bap. 10 Feb 1878 NOTE - the mother is recorded as Mary Jane for the two younger children. I can't see a Marriage or Burial for any of these people at Leaton. Mike __________________________________ In response to: Confused!!! Trying to trace back past my Great Grandfather, he was known to our family as Richard Joseph Richards DOB ??/??/ 1874 and on the 1901 Census listed as being born in Bilsom, Staffordshire, England (Bilston?) He had married Emma Dorricott in 1897 in Clive/Grinshill (Marriages Sep 1897 Dorricott Emma Wem 6a 1380 Richards Richard Joseph Wem 6a 1380) I have the wedding cert but doesn’t give me much to work with the only progression I can make is his father is Joseph Richards. The Dorricott line is ok I have quite a lot of info on that side of the family but the Richards seem an elusive lot. To add to my confusion I’ve been given details as follows Joseph Richard Richards, DOB 12 Jul 1874, LEATON BY SHREWSBURY,SHROPSHIRE,ENGLAND Father is Joseph Richards As I am new to this please could anyone help me decipher this information as some of the Shropshire info ties in and seems a stronger link, whereas the Staffordshire line of enquiry has gone cold?
