Martin, Thanks for the suggestions.I've got records on the Hutson/Hudson family from Lllanllwchaiarn, Mont. in mid/late 1800's but have yet to find a link to my Bettws-y-Crwyn family. My main hope is to substantiate the link from John Hudson (bap. 1803) to Richard and Mary. I've traced a marriage of Richard Hudson to Mary Morgan on 3rd June 1793 at Clun, but were these John's parents? I've yet to trace death of Richard, but I've got death certificate for a Mary Hudson, widow, died 2nd May 1839 aged 70 (ie born c. 1769) at Bettws-y-Crwyn with death informed by daughter-in-law Elizabeth Hamer. I've found marriage of a Elizabeth Hudson to Thomas Hamer on 27th October 1816 at Llanvair Waterdine, but no baptism record for Elizabeth. But realise her parents may have slipped over border to Rads. or Mont. e.g. in period 1793-1800 between birth's of Richard and Mary, which may just fit with birth of Elizabeth. Also 1841 Census has a Thomas (age 45) and Elizabeth Hamar (age 44) living in parish of Bettws. Is this sufficient evidence to link John and Elizabeth to Richard and Mary? In response to: Further thought, Phil. If you find that you are stuck for earlier origins these may of course be over the border in Rads; but also in Monts. There was a substantial family of Hodson / Hudson in Tregynon and nearby, often designated as gents (though in Wales that style often suffered from semantic inflation). I know that the forename George reoccurs - the name of "your" Richard's father. Bill Barker has a section on them (under Hodson) in his cd of "Families of Montgomeryshire". An early one, a George, was in 1662 or so then of Lea, parish of Bishops Castle. As regards Rads, he has (via Mr T E Gwynne's marriage index) a reference to a marriage on 8.4.1812 at Llandinam of Samuel Hodson, then of Knighton. IGI of couse is u/s for Wales pre 1813.
