It might help things along if Helen told us where she has found this Matilda, and fuller details (as indeed the panel in which one makes these postings recommends). One might guess that this has been in the Census, 1861 or later; and that she was then with a husband. If so, there ought to be a reasonable chance of tracing the GRO reference for marriage (but not the marriage itself) via FreeBMD. If of course she was a widow, or married but not with husband at the time another approach is needed. Another small point: given that Censuses were generally held early in the year, her true age might be one year greater, and thus making her birth before the start of civil registration.
