Re Mrs Matilda AS(H)CROFT

Iwould still recommend that you buy the birth cert for Ellen ASCROFT, born in Shrewsbury in 1860 to be sure of the mother's maiden surname. LEDSON is unknown to the IGI for Salop apart from a very late private entry for a marriage in 1854. The only bap in St Julian's of a Matilda between 1.1.1836 and 31.12.1841 was 29.5.1836 (born 7.5.1836 - noted in the baptismal register) Matilda, daughter of Thomas and Ann Maria Williams, Coleham, soapmaker. This, I later saw, is in IGI; and indeed all baps for St J between 1813 and at least 1837 are in IGI. You can search forenames only for a span of years (not possible for surnames which you can search only for all periods). It might well be that Mrs Matilda Ascroft / Ashcroft gave other ages or places of birth at other Censuses. That apart,
