A 500-year-old Shropshire story

MORE children of Corvedale.

A talk and presentation is to be held on Friday 30th September at 7.30pm at the Edge Arts Centre in Much Wenlock.
Phil Revell will offer a new perspective on the story of More children of Corvedale. The Mores are a long established Shropshire family with a large estate at Linley near Bishops Castle. In 1616 Katherine More’s four children were taken from her, and were eventually transported to America in the Pilgrim fathers’ ship, the Mayflower.
Three of the children died in that first year in the New World, and the fourth, Richard More, lived to witness the Salem witch trials. As a Mayflower passenger, Richard More is regarded as one of the founding fathers of the United States.
Phil Revell will challenge the accepted version of this story, and offer a look into the first twenty years of the Jacobean era. The presentation will look at some of the pitfalls involved in doing original research.
Phil Revell is a local writer, living in Broseley. As a journalist he wrote for the national press on education issues. ‘A Spurious Brood’, his fictional treatment of the More story, will be available at the presentation.
Tickets for this event cost £5, with the proceeds going to local charities.
Tickets from Phil Revell direct – and from Downes in Broseley, Wenlock Books, and the Castle Bookshop in Ludlow.
