Wed, 05/10/2011 - 06:30

After long negotiations with The National Archives, Kew, Derek Lloyd has managed to get us a slot at TNA.

The Society have, for many years, run a coach to the TNA (The National Archive) at Kew, we are taking a Coach to The National Archives at a very modest charge of £22 return which starts from the Abbey Foregate car park in Shrewsbury at 6.30am prompt and return you at approximately 9.00pm in the evening, stopping for tea and coffee breaks at an M40 motorway service station en route.
There will be toilets available on the coach
Parking in Abbey Foregate car park, yes you can "pay & display" to park all day (very convenient for boarding and departing the coach). Make sure you buy a parking ticket and display it or inherit a parking fine
Picking up points if it’s more convenient for you we can pick you up at The Shirehall here in Shrewsbury or the “Cock Hotel” in Wellington, please ask as we may be travelling past your house!
Our main drop-off point will be TNA, but as an alternative you might like to take advantage of one of the nearby places to visit - Kew Gardens. Please have a word with Derek beforehand if you are interested in any of these options.
The coach will leave TNA for the return journey at 5pm sharp.

NB: People intending to visit TNA should note that they do not need a reader's ticket if they are not using original documents. However, if they want to use original documents, or other original source material, they will need a reader's ticket.
If you want to obtain a reader's ticket it will speed up the procedure when you arrive at TNA if you make an on-line registration. This can be done up to a month before your visit from the TNA web-site The National Archives. When you get to TNA you will need to produce some ID to enable a member of staff to issue your ticket.
We hope as many members as possible will join us for what is always a wonderful day out.
