Burwarton Show

Burwaton Show is one of the premier one-day agricultural shows in the country attracting some twenty thousand visitors a year to the glorious Shropshire countryside. 

Shropshire Family History Society will be having a small stand at this event with a team of volunteer helpers and a computer so they can try and help if you have reached a brick wall in your family history research.

They will also be selling a selection of local interest books and maps, a selection of books on family history research and CD's with a range of histrorical Shropshire information. 

 

 

Monthly talk - Richard Bifield: Shropshire Churches

Richard Bifield will be joining us to take a look at the magnificent collection of church buildings and furnishings that we have in the county. 

Doors open at 19:00 when there will be be opportunity to browse bookstalls, look at Shropshire parish records and seek advice from the team if you have any questions that are hampering your family history research. The talk will commence at 19:30 after which tea and coffee will be available.

Celebrating 40 years - SFHS Members Day

Shropshire Family History Society was founded in 1979 and therefore plans to celebrate 40 years as a Society with a Members Day at our Cross Houses meeting venue. 

A buffet lunch will be followed by a talk by John E Vigar an Ecclesiastical Historian. John will give a talk entitled 'Bedroom, Banquests and Balls' which tells the stories of our country houses through their architecture and content using both well known homes and totally forgotten ones. 

The event is members only with details of how to book having been distributed in the June 2019 journal. Although we asked for bookings by 1st July late bookings are still being accepted, so please contact the Secretary at secretary @ sfhs.org.uk (remove spaces to use) if you are interested in attending.

Acton Scott Family History weekend

The event will take place on 12th and 13th October at Acton Scott Working Farm. It will provide an opportunity to see how your ancestors would have lived and worked.

Monthly talk - Graham Bradbury: Tracing my birth parents after my adoption
