I am researching Thomas HULSE born about 1713, lived in Drayton.Worked as a Dancing Master. I am trying to find out more  about the work of a Dancing Master during the 18th Century. I just wondered if anybody had any ideas about where to go for more information. Many thanks for any suggestions!

I am sure you will come across the work of Cecil sharp who, in the early 20th C, tried to create an archive of early music, there is also a Wiki Page that lists the 17th & 18th C editions of the book "The Dancing Master" and finally there is an LP/CD called "The Compleat Dancing Master" by Ashley Hutchings/John Kirkpatrick (John, I believe is local and still producing music). I have that album in my car and it usually raises a few odd looks when a random track from it pops up.

By chance I was talking to my brother at the weekend about music and he mentioned John Kirkpatrick. He thinks John lives in or around Bishop's Castle. His website is: http://www.johnkirkpatrick.co.uk/
