I am trying to identify the parents of Elizabeth JONES born abt 1813 at Oswestry [died Shrewsbury 1889].

An Elizabeth JONES was baptised in Shropshire 21 Feb 1813 "born yesterday" to David JONES & Elizabeth STOKES, but as JONES is such a usual name, it may not be the correct baptism.

Elizabeth married Thomas GRIFFITHS [born Kynaston in 1806, died Shrewsbury 1894] & her first? child Margaret was born 11 May 1845 at Burlton, Loppington. However I can not find their marriage. Thomas GRIFFITHS was one of the first Peelers.

Please can anyone help me with th bastism & marriege of Elizabeth JONES?

Hello Susan

I have a horrible feeling that the information above is just a coincidence of names and dates and as you say in your original message it may not be the correct baptism.

You say that your Elizabeth JONES was born at Oswestry about 1813.  Did you get this from the census?

Unfortunately the entry found by Angela has two problems. First, it is a Roman Catholic baptism, which may or may not fit in with your family and secondly, and more important, Mawley Hall is near Cleobury Mortimer in south Shropshire just about as far away as you can get from Oswestry within Shropshire.

You really need to start again on this. Working back from Elizabeth's death/burial tell us exactly what you have that puts her born Oswestry in 1813.

Dear Angel & Mike

Thank you Angela for the whole details of the baptism I had found. Mike is correct that it is not the right one.

I  could have found the baptism of her brother in the Oswestry Parish Registers " 25 Jan 1801 s. of Humphrey Jones clockmaker & Eliz. b.9 Jan 1801'

Her brother was with her in the 1861 census age 60 born Oswestry, unmarried, shoemaker.

I believe Elizabeth was probably born in 1813. ie 1881census age 68 = 1813; 1871 age 58 = 1813;

1861 age 45 = 1816; 1851 age 37 = 1814. She is always listed as born Oswestry

Do the Oswestry Parish Registers exist for 1813-6?

Any help gratefully received,

Susan
