This afternoon I attended this weeks "Great War Remembrance Service" at St Chad's Church, Shrewsbury. It was only 20 minutes long but very moving, especially when they read out the 61 names of men and women who died between 6 and 12 April 1917, this include my Grandfather James Stockton.
This week coincided with the commencement of the Battle of Arras which explained the rise in numbers over previous weeks.
If you have any ancestor killed in WWI, you are welcome to attend one of the weekly services, it does not need to be on the actual Centenary, if you aren't in Shrewsbury on the matching Wednesday, they will read out the name as long as you let them know before or when you arrive.
