I'm researching the history of Thomas Henry Ellis (1887-1958) and have just found a 1908 newspaper article from The Shrewsbury Chronicle that describes his occupation as Blacksmith's Striker and employed at the Midland Works. I've also found a reference in Grace's Guide to British Industrial History to The Midland Railway Carriage and Wagon Company of Shrewsbury, but is this the same as Midland Works? Does anyone have any insight on The Midland Works? I suspect they were located in the Ditherington area.
Thanks

Hello Phil
The Midland Railway Carriage and Wagon Works were situated a short distance south from the Abbey Church between Belle Vue Road and Abbey Foregate.
This map reference on the National Library of Scotland web site should show you a close up view of the Ordnance Survey 1:2,500 scale map dated 1902. If you zoom out you will be able to see the surrounding area.
