I am attempting to identify the book from which image copied. Being page 514 (there are additional pages relating to the family) it would seem the original book is quite large.  Name of compiler/date would be useful.

If anyone is trying to help Ken with this problem and finding it difficult to view his image then the solution is to Right-Click on the actual image then select Copy Image.  You can then paste it into your favourite image viewer, bring it up to full screen and zoom in and out and move around so the text can be better understood.

Hello Ken

Whilst I can't help you directly I get the impression that your page may be from a collection of single page manuscripts bound together rather than a book as such.  There are similar in Shropshire Archives, notably those compiled by Betton and the Morris brothers, Joseph Morris 1792-1860 and George Morris 1799-1859 which run in to many volumes and thousands of pages.

I know that the writing on your page does not match that of Betton or Joseph Morris, both of which I have examples of.

If you go onto the Shropshire Archives web site and search for Niccolls it should bring up about 143 results the second one of which is the 'Pedigree of Niccolls of Asterley' which may be of interest.

The problem is that you would normally go into the Archives to view this, so unless you are planning a trip in the near future is difficult for you.  The alternative is to contact the Archives and ask them if they can confirm whether your page is from this manuscript.  Do point out that you live in NZ so a personal visit is difficult.

Thanks Mike for your comments.  It would be good to have a contact in Shrewsbury who was able to check out some Archives items.

Hello Ken

I had to go into the archives this morning to look something up for myself so I took the opportunity to have a look at your NICCOLS problem.

The page you have illustrated is one of six in a manuscript indexed as NICCOLLS of Boycott, Newnham and Shrewsbury by George Morris.  The archives reference is 6001/2792 and your page is in Volume 5 on pages 513 - 518 inclusive.  Do you have the other pages?

If you need the full set of pages I am told by the archives that they have digital images of all the pages which you can order for delivery over the Internet.  The cost is likely to be about GBP20.00 about NZ$37.50.

Evening Mike,

Thanks for your interest in my Niccolls family - it is good to know who/when the Tree was done. Yes, iI have all 6 pages and I am working thru' it checking his information against the resources which are now more readily available - a couple of likely errors so far. Archives costs seem quite high - have been looking thryu their index for Niccolls family - but unless something really good turns up. I guess I will not be tempted to obtain copies.
