William DOWNES born 1775 Shifnal
Hi,
I'm looking for some information about the above. I suspect my ancestor above may have married twice but can’t find any record of the second marriage, if indeed there was one.
William was born in Shifnal 1775
He married Ann Davis in Wellington 1797
Will'm Downs and Ann Davis, both of this parish, were married in this church by Banns, 20 Nov 1797. In the presence of John Davies and John Roden
Children followed, baptised at Shifnal:
Edward the son of William Downes of the Wike cordwainer and Ann his wife born April 25th baptised May 6 1798
William the son of Will'm Downes of the Hem shewmaker and Ann his wife born May 21st baptised June 2 1799
Then what I believe to be the death of his wife closely followed by son William both in 1799.
Ann Downes of the Hem buried June 21st A 24 (age 24, the correct age for Ann)
William Downes son of W'm Downes of the Hem buried July 11
There is then a gap of 14 years to March 1813 when further children appear:
William son of William and Ann Downes of Hem, shoemaker (28 March 1813)
Mary daughter of William and Ann Downes of Hem, shoemaker (15 Oct 1815)
Helen daughter of William and Ann Downes of Hem, shoemaker (12 April 1818)
It may be that William has married another Ann prior to March 1813 and it is that I am trying to find, assuming everything else is correct. The one solid thread is William Downes Shoemaker/Cordwainer and his abode at the tiny villages of The Hem and Wyke close to Shifnal.
So I am trying to find the marriage to the second Ann possibly 1812-13.
Thanks for your help.
