On the gallery section of the SFHS web site there is a photo of the fields near Wrockwardine; the photo is entitled 'Sludge Hall':

I'd be interested to hear from whoever posted this photo - or from anyone else who remembers a place known locally as Sludge Hall.

Grateful if you could get in touch my responding to this forum post in the first instance. I'll then let you have contact details to compare notes.

Many thanks,

Tony

Hi Tony, I was the one who posted the Photos.
My wife is descended from the LEIGHTONS or Rodington, Wrockwardine & Stoke-on-Tern, so when I was traveling round the area in 2002, I spoke to someone locally, to see if any LEIGHTONs  still lived in or around Wrockwardine, they said that in the middle of that field in the photo, on the pathway from the former Sugar Beet Factory up to Charlton, was a small building used for trysts. As I was only very fresh to Family History I never took a note of the informer or asked for more lurid details, but it was somehow connected to a LEIGHTON Family and it was locally called "Sludge Hall".

Good morning!

I am also descended from Leightons, in my case from John son of Robert and Mary, baptised at Rodington, 17th September 1776. I have details of the family line since then, if you're interested. However the trail goes cold before Robert as there seems to be no baptism or marriage records.

Hi Bernard, John LEIGHTON (who married Mary EDWARDS) is my wife's 4XGGF, through their son Samuel b 1816 Allscott (where the Sugar Beet Factory above was), SAL.
