Hi I have been looking for the Ancestry of my 8th Great Grandfather Francis Wynn. The familial rumour goes of relation to Llywelyn the Great and descent from the Gwydir Family.

His earliest mention I can find is his marriage in 1698 in the Parish of Ellesmere to a Katherin/Catherine Jones who died in 1740 at the age of 77.

Their son Richard Wynn was baptised in 1703. And Francis died without making a Will in 1714 and had an administration on the 20th October 1714 which bore an Eagle crest as proof of agreement between the "sanguine" of Catherine J. Wynn, Thomas Eyton and Meynell Kynaston. Meynell Kynaston being of Hardwick Hall in Shropshire and Penley Hall in Flintshire in records I have found on him. This Eagle crest I haphazardly sketched due to photos of the Crest coming out pitch black and useless, and had inquired of the College of Arms which found it to be similar to those borne of the Gwydir Family and not related to the families of Jones, Eyton or Kynaston. I was also told it was unlikely to be the Administrators' seal by a member of Staff at Shropshire Archives ergo thus being most likely of Francis' side.

It is also plausible his grandson my 6th Great Grandfather John Wynn b.1725 and d.1810 is the same individual as John Wynn of Cockshutt who had a Will in 1794 due to naming of his family with many of the same names as my 6th Great Grandfather's.

Any help or advice in this matter is greatly appreciated,

Callum Wynne.
