My great great grandfather, JOHN POWELL, was born in Bishops Castle - date varies with census between 1821 and 1830 but his age given when he died in 1897 would make his dob 1824.  He first turns up in the 1851 census in Pembrokeshire as an agricultural labourer.  He marries a local girl later that year and the marriage certificate gives his father's name as JOHN POWELL, occupation - Whitesmith.

John Powell junior remains in Pembrokeshire until his death but in each census, his place of birth is Bishops Castle.  However, I can't find him conclusively in the 1841 census so I don't know when he came to Pembrokeshire.

I have spent hours over several years searching the 1841 censuses and also birth records for John junior.  I've also searched extensively for a John Powell, whitesmith.

If anyone can help with firstly, where John junior may have been baptised (if not Bishops Castle) and also, any information that could help me with tracing John Powell senior's occupation - would he have had any work as a whitesmith in Bishops Castle?  John Powell senior was not noted as deceased on the marriage certificate of his son in 1851.

Many thanks in anticipation.  Janet
