I live in the US and am researching my husbands family.

I am looking for others who would be connected to a William JONES abt 1816 Farlow, Herefordshire Shropshire,

He would have been married to a Mary Anne PAGE of Oreton abt 1820-abt 1852

Children would be William abt 1843,  Mary Anne abt 1840 and Thomas abt 1850

We know very little before they, Mary Ann and her husband Benjamin SMITH (he immigrating I believe several years before she) came to America.

If you believe you are related please take the time to drop a few lines.

Hello Cynthia

I don't have any direct information about your family but perhaps I can help you with the local geography.

Farlow is in Shropshire not Herefordshire but it is slightly more complicated than that which makes research a bit complicated.

Farlow is a Chapelry of Stottesdon ancient parish, both in Shropshire.  See the England & Wales Jurisdictions 1851 on the Family Search web site.  Oreton is also in Stottesdon parish.

The complication is that parishes in south Shropshire are in the Diocese of Hereford and I would guess this is why you thought Farlow was in Herefordshire.

The parish registers are at Shropshire Archives in Shrewsbury and also available on the Find my Past web site (fee payable).  Put Shropshire in the search box.

The Bishop's Transcripts are at Hereford Record Office and any Wills proved before 1858 will also be there.

Thank You Mike,

Being an American I am used to States, County, City and Town. Chapily and Parish are all new to me so all suggestions are much welcome.

In the Census reports I have  found they are listed as being from Farlow, Herfordshire, England.

Somehow it did not seem correct. I am very causous to keep a printed copy of a Ecclesiastical Pasish's but could not find a Farlow, Herfordshire. Thank you very much for the explanation and tip.

I will be checking your suggested sites very soon.

Again, Thank you, Cynthia

Hello Cynthia,

Michael correctly said complication is that parishes in south Shropshire are in the Diocese of Hereford. Have spent many hours trying to unravel Farlow Jones families, visiting St Giles Church and burial ground.

If we are both researching the same Jones line then the following may be of help. William Jones b 1821 d.1898 Cleobury Mortimer, spouse Martha Allen b. 1821 d.1902 Cleobury Mortimer. Marriage 1837.  Both buried in Cleobury Mortimer.

Known children: Maryann b.1837 - Elizabeth b. 1839 - Thomas b. 1843 - Edward b.1845 - William b. 1849       Sarah b.1851 d. 1923.

John.

John, I am sorry I have not gotten back with you before this.

Thank you for the information, I will check into it in the morning. I have been knee deep in SMITH's and JONES'.  I honestly am coming to the conclusion that my Benjamin SMITH (Married Mary Anne JONES 26 July 1882 married in the parish of Ludlow) does not want to be found.  I have one promising line but not enough of the blanks filled in. I'll do what we all do, keep digging.

Again, thanks for the info.
