PEELE / PEEL / PEAL Family :  Variations of surname.

Area -Shrewsbury.

Hi, I am new to the Shropshire Forum.

I will start with what is confirmed.

Travelling from Liverpool arriving New York 19 May 1870.

I have John PEELE b c1822 and wife Ann b 1835 with children

Henry b 1858 : Alfred (1856 ?) :  Sarah Jane b1863: Samuel b 1865: Ann b1867 & Edwin  b1869:

They are listed as PEAL on the 19 July 1870 USA Census ( Indianapolis )

Two more children were born in USA. Mary Louisa and Richard.

Ann only stayed in America for a few years

1881 U.K CensusBirmingham , Warwickshire

Ann PEEL b 1835/6 Shrewsbury.   Head of household , Occ: Laundress

States she is married , rather than widowed, but no sign of her husband John..     .

She is with her children, Samuel b 1865 Shrewsbury: Ann b1867 Shrewsbury:

Mary b1873 .America:  Richard b1876  America:  Alfred b1875 Birmingham.

Marriage:

I have found a Civil Registration marriage and a Parish Marriage

John  PEELE=  Ann GRIFFITHS

 Shrewsbury

Sept Quarter 1863

Ref: 6a-1098

And

John PEEL and Ann GRIFFITHS

St Chad’s. Church , Shrewsbury, Shropshire on 26 July 1864.

There is a year difference in these records.Possible a mis-transcription  of a record. Could  the  couple have  married twice ?

I would like to know if John was a Widow. Possible he was married before his marriage to Ann.

I believe the children on voyage to USA , Henry, Alfred & Sarah Jane are his younger children from his first wife. Is it possible her name was Sarah.?

I found a death in 1863  for Sarah PEELE in Shrewsbury.

Is it possible that the following children died

Edwin , also Alfred and that Ann’s last child Alfred b1876 B’ham was named after him.

What happened to Sarah Jane b 1863?

Did she return to Shrewsbury ?It is possible she had older  siblings who did not travel to USA

Did Henry  ( Robert Henry ? ) return to Shrewsbury ?

Did John PEELE/ PEEL/ PEAL return from USA, die in Birmingham or return to Shrewsbury ?

EDIT: Just found a John PEEL in Birmingham Workhouse, Western Rd, (Also known as The Archway of Tears ) in 1881. John is  aged 57yrs. States birthplace as Albrighton, Shropshire. Occ: Bricklayer. Imbecile

Fresh eyes and thoughts would be appreciated for this PEELE Lineage.

Thank you.
