It looks thanks to the breakthrough may just have started happening. I wonder if anyone could check a marriage entry for me please that could be mistranscibed on the Fammily Search site.

It reads 28.08.1797 Shrewsbury St Mary  Edward ELFORD and Elizabeth CROFT. If the name is Alford it would fit with a baptism found of Thomas HALFORD  2.6.1814 MEOLE BRACEY which I think is my ancestor.

One final question please is Meole Bracey a pit village?

Hello Shirley

The Shropshire parish registers up to 1900 are available on the Find my Past subscription web site.

The original entry for your marriage reads:-

Edward ELFORD & Elizabeth CROFT of this parish were married in this church by Banns this 28th day of August 1797 in the presence of Edwd. DICKING and John WOOD.

The bride and groom made their marks, the witnesses both signed.

Don't worry too much about the spelling of the surname provided it sounds the same. The person concerned probably didn't know how to spell the name so it would be written down the way that it sounded, sometimes with many variations.
