I have found Thomas Alford marrying a Sophia Beaman in 1839 in Dawley Bank. Their certifaicate dictates that his father was called Edward and also a Collier. As I do not know which parish to look in I cannot find his baptism or his parents. The 1851 census spells their name as Hetford which again is confusing. The parish where he looks to come from is Bracemole. Can anyone shine a light on them please.

Hello Shirley

I note that the marriage between Thomas ALLFORD and Sophia BEAMAN took place at Wellington parish church on 26th May 1839. The marriage certificate tells us that she was a widow and her father's surname was CLEATON.  You say the marriage was at Dawley Bank so have you found a different entry somewhere?

The parish of Bracemole (Brace Meole) which you have found is now known as Meole Brace, on the south side of Shrewsbury.

The Baptism register for Meole Brace lists the baptism of Thomas HALFORD on 2nd Jan 1814 and shows his father's forename as Edward which fits with the marriage entry. Looking at the 1851 census the handwriting is difficult to read but I had guessed the surname might be HALFORD before finding the baptism entry.

Do check the children carefully in the 1851 census.

Mike
