I have been intrigued by a webpage entry on the Church of the Latter Day Saints (extract enclosed) which appears to throw up previously unknown evidence about my family tree.

My Great Great Grandfather John BREEZE Blacksmith of Asterley (1811-1870) married Martha GRIFFITHS (1816-1864) and they had as far as I have determined 7 chidlren including my Great Grandfather Edward William BREEZE. However I was confused by the Administration of Wills Record that shows on John's death in 1870 his widow Martha BREEZE is mentioned.

The CLDS entry suggests that he had a son Joseph (Born Asterley 1861) and married Martha TIPTON in 1865 (the year after his wife Martha GRIFFITHS death). Interestingly I have a copy of John's death certificate and the informant of the death is given as a James JONES (no mention of a widow)

I wonder if you are able to offer any evidence of (a) the birth of Joseph BREEZE in 1861 (no info on census record),(b) the possible marriage of John to Martha TIPTON in 1865 and (c) any knowledge of Mormons worshipping in the area in the 19th century.

I was born 11 September 1887, at the home of Grandma GERBER [Elisabeth Gertsch GERBER], my mother's mother. She lived in the 11th ward (about 9th East and 2nd South) in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. My father was Joseph BREEZE, born 15 July 1861 in Asterley, Shropshire, England. His father was John BREEZE, born 3 December 1811 in Asterley, Shropshire, England. His mother was Martha GRIFFITHS, born 7 April 1816 in Pontesbury, Shropshire, England. She died 2 May 1864. John BREEZE’s second marriage was to Martha Roberts TIPTON. Martha R. TIPTON had a son Jacob H. TIPTON, born 6 October 1861, the same age as my father. Martha R. TIPTON joined the L. D. S. Church in 1847. She was the first to join in Asterley Branch. Martha TIPTON BREEZE with the two boys, Joseph BREEZE and Jacob H. TIPTON came to Utah in 1877

This thread refers to the same family as the earlier one in September 2013.

I am also related to this BREEZE family through John and Martha BREEZE'S son John ( Also a blacksmith).  I still have some contact with the American branch as my side of the family kept in touch through the years.  I am most eager to get in touch to compare notes, although I have to admit to needing to tidy up my research.

Great to find someone with interest in the family line !

Is your connection through John Breeze (1844 - 1931) ? If so, then if my research is accurate  that would be the brother of my Great Grandfather Edward William Breeze (1854-1933).

I would be happy to share info. with you to widen the story . My late Aunt Dylys Breeze (sister of my father) often referred to an American connection but this is the first time I have found any tangible evidence.of such !

Not sure how we arrange to exhange email address without publishing on this page
