Hello

I'm researching my family tree and I'm a bit stuck on one of the lines.

Jane Briscoe, my 3rd great grandmother, was born in Felton, Ruyton of the Eleven Towns around the end of 1820 / beginning of 1821 (she was baptised on 14 Jan 1821).

I know her Father was Samuel Briscoe, and he was a Blacksmith

Jane's baptism shows her mother as Elizabeth

’ve found 2 marriage records for a Samuel marrying an Elizabeth:

On 28 Nov 1816, a Samuel Briscoe married Elizabeth Chilton in St Oswald’s, Oswestry

On 8 May 1818, a Samuel Briscoe married Elisabeth Martin in Clunbury

It's looking more likely that the 1816 wedding is my ancestor's but I can't say for certain.

I thought I'd post to see if anyone has a connection in their tree to the first couple and has more information?

Thanks so much, Nina

Hello Nina

There appears to be nine children born to Samuel BRISCOE (Blacksmith) and his wife Elizabeth, all baptised at West Felton.

Joseph 1817
Samuel 1819
Jane 1821
Sarah 1822
Mary 1824
Elizabeth 1825
Thomas 1827
George 1829
Penelope 1832

I suggest you try to follow up this family in the census, especially 1841 and 1851 to see if that offers any clues.

There were four BRISCOE children baptised at Clunbury but they were all the children of Samuel and Mary BRISCOE.

Mary 1789
Samuel 1792
William 1794
Martha 1797

I am wondering whether the wife Mary died and the marriage in 1818 to Elizabeth was Samuel's second marriage from which they didn't have any children. Something for you to explore.

Mike
