Does anyone recognise this place  "The Leasows" or something similar? One of my ancestors was born there in 1866 but I can't find it on any map.

Thanks Malcolm.

Hello Malcolm

Have you found the family in the 1871 or later census living at The Leasowes?  If so can you tell us the census details like year, page reference (R.G.?? / ???? folio ?? page ??) and/or the full name, age and occupation of the husband and wife.  With this information we can better establish where the premises are in relation to others nearby.

A couple of small points I've noticed.  First, spelling - you might find Leasows or Leasowes used.  Secondly, the use of 'The' Leasows may just be the way that the registrar chose to write it.

Looking at the map in the Cleobury North area I notice there is 'Great Leasows' about 1/2 mile NNW and 'Little Leasows' about 1 mile N.

I have also found a reference to 'Leasows Farm, Cleobury North' but I haven't been able to identify that on a map.

Hopefully you may be able to give us enough information to sort this out.

Hi Mike The family weren't living there in 1861 or '71.

in 1861 they were at
Blackforde, Stoke St Milborough, Shropshire, England
Richard Noakes, Farmer (35 acres), wife Elizabeth neé Duce and seven children, eldest 17 and 15yrs, youngest 4mo.

RG 9; Piece: 1838; Folio: 65; Page: 11 line 10 (schedule no 54)

In 1871 they were at
Wrickton Cottage, Wrickton, Stottesden, Shropshire, England
Richard Noakes, Ag Lab, wife Elizabeth neé Duce and six children, eldest 25 and 10yrs, youngest 2yrs

RG10; Piece: 2739; Folio: 79; Page: 7 line 13 (schedule no25)

Following your suggestion I found the following for Leasows Farm, Cleobury North.

1861 RG09 Piece 1848 Folio 87 Page 6 line 12 (schedule No 4)
Thomas Bradley, wife Ann, 7 children 2 servants

Previous page Folio 87 Page 5 line 10 (schedule No 26) Hay Farm; line 16 End of Neenton Parish.
Next page Folio 88 Page 7 line 1 (schedule No 5) starts Mile House***; line 12 (schedule No 7) Parsonage.

17/11/16 EDIT*** after reviewing I now think this is MILL house

1871 RG10 Piece 2741 Folio 14 Page 9 line 6 (schedule No 8) is listed as Farm House, Robert Wardle et al. previous property line 3 (schedule No 7) is Rectory,  Morris Edgar Hanbrough.

I haven't yet looked at maps again, but from what I can remember the only building  I recall is Church, presumably Rectory is nearby. I'll have another look,

I'd still appreciate a second opinion from someone with more local knowledge. Thanks.

Regards Malcolm.

PS Edit: I've had a look at 1883 map and google maps. No luck. There are one or two possibilities but no identification given

Hi Mike

I've had a good look at the census and carefully studied the maps and come to the conclusion it was one of the Leasows  you mentioned, but that I'll probably never know which one. The Leasows Farm is, I believe Great Leasows, the entrance is now on Oakwood Rd. Google Street view shows a name plate but it is not that clear. Little Leasows buildings are still there, but impossible to tell if they're still occupied. They look to be in the middle of a complex of private farm roads, so no street view.

Regards Malcolm.
