My grandfather, Ernest Hartley, and grandmother, Mary (Ann) Griffiths, married while working at the Fortune Hotel in 1910 in Stourport. I would be grateful if anyone can help me identify the location of the hotel.
Might add that a "tontine" was a sort of fortune that passed to the last survivor of subscrbers.
Hi, many thanks for your email and I believe you are right. I was trying to decipher the handwriting on the 1910 certificate and came up with 'fortune', but after your suggestion I've had another look and now I can see how it could be 'Tontine', thanks again.
Do you perhaps refer to the Tontine Hotel? If so you can find much via Google. Still there. (I lived for 10 years in the area, and indeed was a non-exec hotel director, but cannot recall any "Fortune").
