I've just realized that Margaret was EDWARDS before marriage, sorry, then wrong marriage !

1871, he was widowed living with children: Sarah, Emma, William, John. What else would you like to know? Are you trying to get back further?

Thank you so much Angela, the childrens names were Sarah, William, Emma and John, Emma married someone from around the Liverpool area and then they all seemed to drift over there where my grandad was born before he moved to Salford in Manchester. I'd love to be able to get back as far as possible.

How do you know that Margaret's maiden name was Edwards? I couldn't find any marriages for HENRY GRICE marrying MARGARET EDWARDS and that's an unusual name ? Only that one that I found. Maybe you already have birth cert of one of the children ( EMMA?) which tells you that. However, you have to now PROVE GRADUALLY to get further back by sending for mostly birth certificates as they will give you both parents names ( unless child illegimate ) there is a very good site called ; http://freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl. TICK PHONETIC SEARCH SURNAMES as that will give you various spelling of each surname. Are you a subscriber into any family sites? Try a free Mormon site; https://familysearch.org/
If you want to send for any certificate, you can shop online at; http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ ( funnily enough based in Liverpool.! ) You should pay £9.25 for each cert. if you are serious about getting into your family tree, there is Ancestry which you can get free for two weeks, then you can either sign up by paying monthly ( expensive but good if you don't use it regularly or pay an annual fee, your call ) of course, people that I have found on here are excellent at helping out, maybe someone sees this and will get you more info than me ! Anyway, most of all, enjoy, and YOU WILL GET HOOKED !

Once you have got as far back as possible using BMD and census records, you will need to turn to Parish Registers for information. You will usually find parish registers at the local County Record office.

Atcham was part of St Mary's, Shrewsbury then and that age equates to info on the 1861 census, born 1828 BUT like I said, not set in stone so all have to be double checked.

Was Emma's husband called JOHN THOMAS HUNTINGTON as there is someone doing same tree on ANCESTRY? AND, they have got back further than HENRY GRICE BUT, they name MARGARET'S maiden name as CULSHAW like I suggested to you?

How I came across the EDWARDS surname was on this site for the BMD for Shropshire, I just put in Henry's name and the only Margaret and Henry GRICE that came up was Margaret EDWARDS, I'm trying to get as far back with the GRICEs as I can maybe a trip to Atcham sometime in the futrure, Emma did marry a HUNTINGDON, I'll check out Ancestry thanks for that.

Yes, if you put in Henry's name and look at other family trees, his is at the top, guy called Richard or if you are not a member, I could contact him for you. Leave you in peace now, good luck, loads to chew on, but think you need to research Emma's birth cert first , send for that to prove Margaret's maiden name. Never assume its correct ! Here's her birth reference in case you haven't got it. Births, marriages and deaths are split up into 4 Quarters, so I.e born February 1858 would be; MAR QTR 1858 ; born April would be; JUNE QTR, there's a SEPT QTR, and a DEC QTR. In this case, Emma was born between Jan-Mar 1858.
