Does anybody no of a story relating to this pub that happened possibly in the 20's/30's regarding a fight between two men resulting in the death of one?
'A man was being goaded by another man till eventually he retaliated and punched him to the ground, his head hit the fire place causing his death. He was not charged with anything because he was provoked.'
Thats all of the story I know.
I do not know the name of the man that died but the name of the other man was Rupert Harris and I can't find anything relating to this at all, infact I cannot find anything to say that this man, Rupert Harris, even existed but he did as he was my great uncle!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Mike, I realize this was never going to be easy thats why I have been putting it off for years and thought its about time I researched it properly!
It may help when you are looking to look for the Horse and jockey madeley wood because thats where it really is not Ironbridge. My cousin ran the jockey for a fair few years and was born in madeley wood i will ask him if he has ever heard this story.
That would be great Madeley, please let me know if he knows anything.
Hello Sharmar,
Through the Links menu, go to local towns and villages then go to Broseley Local history which has a searchable index for newspaper articles from the 'Wellington Journal' covering Ironbridge,Madeley Wood and many local places and events.

Hello Sharmar
If there was a death then there would have been an Inquest and that is what you need to be searching for which is not going to be easy without a name or an exact date. Newspapers have to be one of your best sources but you will have to be prepared for quite a long haul although this can be reduced somewhat by searching a weekly newspaper like the Wellington Journal which is probably your best bet.
You probably only need to look at the front page of each weeks paper, so I would start at the middle of your date range then work five years forwards then five years backwards then the next five years forwards, etc.
