Cannot now use this web site to search any section using my existing web browser. Comes up with error to use another web browser.

Anybody else had this problem.

Hello Dave

I have just used the Archer Batch Numbers (which are the most up to date) to search Family Search on Firefox, Google Chrome and MS Internet Explorer 11 - they all worked as normal.

Have you got an old version of a web browser? If so you need to update it to a modern version. If you are using Microsoft Windows XP then you can only update Internet Explorer to about version 8 I think.

Hi Mike

Have got Windows XP and Internet Explorer 8, cannot update XP above 8.

Have always been able to use the site until last week.

Have just used the Archer Batch Numbers with Internet Explorer 8 and it works.

Thanks for your help

Dave

Hello Dave

I have just tried using the Archer Batch Numbers and Internet Explorer 8 on a Windows XP machine and this brings up the following message at the top of the Family Search web page

"Attention: This site does not support the current version of your web browser. To get the best possible experience using our website we recommend that you upgrade to a newer version or install another browser."

The words 'install another browser' at the end of the message provide a link to a page listing other browsers.

I did get some results up on the Internet Explorer 8 browser but they may have lacked some detail available on other browsers.  Internet Explorer 8 is the most recent version that will work on an XP machine and of course XP itself is now in terminal decline with Microsoft ending support for it later this month. It may be that we will see more problems like this over the coming months.

I can only suggest you install another browser like Firefox (which I use) or Google Chrome which will overcome your present problem until such time as you make the decision to buy a new machine.

Dave,

Agree with Michael's helpful advice.  I use Firefox (now version 28) on my XP3 desktop.  But, I also retain use of IE8 for some sites, as Firefox can sometimes get a bit over-zealous in blocking bits of content from some sites (those it deems to be 'redirecting' or producing 'banners').  But, I'd still recommend giving it (or Chrome) a try and alternating use to see how you go with each.

I use PUFFIN as a browser sometimes as using this iPad found with all problems on FMP , I couldn't see original census, but works great on Puffin.
