Hi All,

I am trying to find out about the Alley Slopers JASS band, my great grandfather Joseph Thomas was in the band.

I have a photo of the band which is very poor quality, it looks as if was taken  on St George's day celebrations in Wellington. I am assuming as it is taken outside a pub, it would be the Red Lion, Park Street as this was their local and they lived in Lewis Yard then in Park Street. I would say it was taken in the 1930's.

Does anyone know anything about the band or know how I might find out, I have tried the Shropshire

Regards

Di

  Hi Di,

  Coincidence or what?

Quite a long time ago you were requesting information on Bettws-y-cryn, I told you I had been looking in this place for details of the birth of my wifes G.Grandfather. at the time I had been informed by one of the Church Officials that parts of the B/M/D records had been eaten by mice, now you are asking about Lewis Yard Park St. Wellington.  Well Di, this is where my Mother was born in 1900, do you think we have a connection somewhere down the line????

Sorry can't help with the band.

Gulielmus.

perhaps the name was borrowed from (or was an allusion to ...) a cartoon character ?

This is great, my line are  Joseph and mary Thomas, they had 12 children one died.

The children born around your Mother in Law all born at Lewis Yard.

Then they moved to 64 park Street, 65 Park Street

These are th children  born around  that time.

Rachel 1899 the only girl

Leonard 1901

Sidney My Grandfather 1903

Walter 1904

Frank 1905.

Do you have any photos of Lewis Yard or know anything about it

I cannot seem to be able to locate anything about it except what is now built on the site.

           Hello Diana,

Sorry, looks as if I have sent you on a wild goose chase Di.

It was my mother who was born Lewis Yard in 1900, by the time she was 4 years old the family had moved to Staffordshire, therefore, I regret to say, your auntie Beat would now have to be around 112 years old with a very good memory.

Our family moved back to Wellington in 1935.

Sorry no photographs of Lewis Yard but quite a few memories of Wellington and surrounding area up to 1970.

Did your husband have a relation born locally about 1920-5 called William (Billy)?

If you wish to pursue this further please see if you can dig out my old e-mail address, I must have removed yours from my old address book at sometime in the past.

Regards Gulielmus.
