Hi all!

I am very new to SFHS and new to Family History in general. I have managed to research my family who originally came from Church Pulverbatch back to the late 1700's but have since come to a bit of a dead end.
I am interested to hear if anyone else descends from William MANSELL born 1796 in Pontesbury who married Diannah HARTSHORN and/or Abraham MANSELL born 1767 who (I think) married Martha/Mary DAVIES.

I am a bit unsure about the latter family but any help would be very much appreciated. Or even anyone who is possibly from the same family line who would like to make contact!

Many thanks

Laura Mansell

Hi Laura,

I too am researching MANSELLs in the Pontesbury area. I did some research a few years ago but have recently started up again. I don't have a William or Abraham around those dates but my own ancester was Samuel MANSELL b.1789 who married (I think) a Mary JONES and was son of Timothy MANSELL b.1753 ...close enough date/location to be a brother or cousin, perhaps. Do you have either in your tree?

Kind  regards,

Ian Perrin

Hi to both Laura and Ian. I'm sorry it's taken me a while to respond to your posts. I am descended from William and Diana MANSELL. My Gt-Grandfather, Thomas MANSELL was their youngest son. Laura you are correct that William was the son of Abraham and Martha MANSELL, but Martha was a PEPLOE before she married Abraham on 16th May 1785 at Wentnor. Ian, my Abraham MANSELL was baptised in Pontesbury on 21st February 1763, so my line goes into Pontesbury and probably links in with yours as Samuel and Timothy are names which also appear in my lines.

I have been able to  research my line back to Michael MANSELL baptised 1633 in Holy Cross, Shrewsbury because these MANSELLs were Burgesses of Shrewsbury, and would be happy to share my research with you both. I therefore ask the webmaster to let you have my email address, so we can exchange information.

Look forward to hearing from both of you.

Pam

Wearing a different hat now, my wife has as her 5th GG Parents Adam MANSELL & Eleanot HILL, who married 3 Jun 1793 at St Chad's, Shrewsbury. Do they ring any bells?

Sorry I’m being a bit slow this week in getting around to answering queries. Geoff, the only Adam Mansell I have in my burgess records is a shoemaker, living in Castle Foregate Shrewsbury, who was sworn in as a burgess in 1844. According to the roll Adam was the son of John Mansell, also of Castle Foregate, who was sworn in as a burgess in 1814, and had brothers Samuel John sworn 1846; John, a wheelwright, sworn 1849:and Henry, a wireworker, sworn 1853. I don’t think this can be your Adam as the dates don’t seem to fit with the marriage, unless he was very old when he became a burgess and his brothers were quite a bit younger than him.

From parish registers, I have an Adam Mansell buried in St. Chad’s on May 4th 1833 aged 60. This gives his place of residence as Hook-a-Gate. If this is your chap, that would mean he was about 20 when he married.

Sorry I can’t help more; the name Adam never appears in my Mansell family.

Best Wishes

Pam
