What a wonderful forum.

I have been researching my husbands family tree for a couple of years now using the freebmd site and my local library, but it has come to the time where a visit to wistanstow holy trinity church is in order to confirm the information we have collected and to obtain more information.

We are researching the Selley family, we have his mothers brothers and sister and the names of his grandparents,Benjamin Selley b;1893 who married Florence Winifred Francis in Ludlow in 1916, i think i have his parents, as John Selley b; 1844 he married Elizabeth Preece b;1861 in sept 1882 and John 's parents as Benjamin and Mary and Elizabeths parents as George and Elizabeth.

Thats as far as we have got.

We are hoping a visit to the church will allow us to see some of the parish records, is this possible or do we go to the records office to view this?

We are hoping to visit on the open day 26th May it sounds like it will be a great day out ;)

Thankyou

A quick response, purely on the question of looking at registers.

Those for Wistanstow are at Shropshire Archives; except for:

Baptisms 1921 onwards;

Burials 1949 onwards

Marriages 1945 onwards.

At Archives one views the registers on fiche. Originals can be produced only in rare instances such as a feint entry.

Look under "Links" icon for further info on Archives. Any deeds or original material have to be seen in the secure reading room for which a reader's ticket is needed (inc mugshot).

No deeds can be ordered up on Saturdays.

Ty for your quick response Martyn.

So would it pay me to go to this open day at the shire hall in Shrewsbury if the Wistanstow records are at Shropshire?

Would it benefit my research by going?

thankyou

I will leave Michael Hulme and / or Graham our webmaster to eulogise on the Open Day, they due on duty there.

It would be pushing it to try to fit in also a visit to Archives on the same day, as latter are open on Sats only 10-00 am - 4-00 pm, and the places are about 2 miles apart.

A long weekend? Archives Friday? Sightseeing Sunday?
