Hi , I Iive in Devon and my research has lead me to Shropshire.

I would appreciate it if anyone could help me with details of the marriage of Thomas BLADEN and Mary MANSELL which took place on the 6th November 1826. The information I need if possible is the father's name for each of them, or any other information that is possibly on the the marriage record. Thomas BLADEN states on the 1851,61,71 census that he was born in Atcham , but the birth years varies from 1795 1798. On following this up there is a Thomas Gough BLADEN born in  1795 in Atcham (parents Thomas & Mary) but none of the other records I have found mention the middle name of Gough. To confuse matters further there is also a Thomas BLADEN born in 1797 in Preston-On-The-Weald with parents John and Mary. On the 1841 & 1851 census my Thomas BLADEN is living next door to an older couple named John and Elizabeth BLADEN. Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks from a new member of SFHS

Hi - I presume this is the marriage of Thomas Bladen and Mary Mansell at Wellington in Shropshire shown on FamilySearch as taking place on the above date?

Sadly, as the marriage took place in 1826 it is unlikely that the record will identify the fathers of either the bride or groom - the recording of the fathers' details came in with civil registration in 1837. For an 1826 marriage all you will usually get beside the bride and groom's names and hopefully also their parish and marital status, are the names of two or more witnesses, who may or may not be family members.

I see that you are already using Ancestry and it looks like you have already discovered the only other Bladen born in Atcham around the same time, William Williams Bladen, also baptised to parents Thomas and Mary (on 18 Aug 1792 or 1793 depending on which FamilySearch record is accurate!), and who appears on the 1861 census at Wellington. Interesting that he too was given a surname as a second forename when baptised, but seems not to have used it in adult life.

Hi Steve, Thanks for your post. You were correct I was referring to the Wellington marriage.

I have already discounted William Williams Bladen, so I am still stuck on my ancestor being either THOMAS BLADEN baptised on the 12th or 13th Oct 1795 in Atcham or the THOMAS BLADEN baptised 3rd Sept 1797 in Preston-On-The-Weald.

If anyone could do a lookup for the marriage of THOMAS BLADEN & MARY MANSELL in Wellington on 6th November 1826, then maybe even though the father's names are not mentioned and it  is just the name of any witnesses or a parish name this might help to point me in the correct direction.

My many ancestors in Shropshire have proved to be quite difficult to trace, with one side coming to a stop with an illegitimate birth in 1843 !

Thanks for any help
