I am researching Wandall GALLIMORE b1806 , son of  John GALLIMORE (1757-1834) and  Elizabeth GALLIMORE nee ALLSOP(1768-1847)

In 1841 cenus in St Alkmund he is listed as a ribbon weaver. I am wondering what his occupation means and maybe what industry he is working in.

At first I thought your query related to St. Alkmund's in Shrewsbury, but on finding WANDALL in 1841 Census I realised he was living in St. Alkmund's, Derby. I also found him in same location in 1851 and 1861 Census. I think his occupation may be connected with the silk industry as if you search the 1851 Census record for him then look at the following pages of Census you will find several other ribbon weaver's, including one individual described as a silk ribbon weaver.

I have no knowledge of silk weaving in Derby, but if you google "Silk Industry Derby" you can find several references including links to "The Silk Mill, Derby". It may be useful if you contact them to find out more about WANDALL's occupation.
