Hi everybody, I'm new to this so sorry if my post isn't up to scratch.
I am researching my family history mainly ROGERS of Ironbridge and Buildwas, and the WINCOTT's from Coalbrookdale and before that Birmingham and Brailes.
I already have quite a bit of info but are looking to correspond with others researching these names. I did see in the members interests section, a WINCOTT from Brailes and ROGERS from ironbridge but I can't see how to connect with these members, so hopefully they are out there and can comment?

  1. I am so far stuck with my ancestor Richard ROGERS b:1664, I'm trying to trace his parents and the branches of the tree down from him. The family seem to be around Leighton, Buildwas and Ironbridge. I believe he had a son Daniel ROGERS b:1684 married Elizabeth LANGWORTH/LANGSWORTH? They had children Richard, Daniel and a daughter, I think.
  2. Richard ROGERS b:1703 went on to marry Sarah HARPER. I'm interested to know what happened to his siblings and their children etc etc. Their son John ROGERS b:1732, I think went on to marry Sarah GLOVER.
  3. I'm also interested in WINCOTTS from Wincot, Whatcote, Whichford, Brailes. They then came to Birmingham and Telford, Coalbrookdale, Newport.
  4. Also PERKS from Broseley but I don't know a lot about these I'm afraid. Just William PERKS b:approx 1945, Mother Ida TENCH, Father John Richard PERKS.
  5. Then BENNETT, MADDEN and COX from Birmingham but came to Ironbridge and emigrated to Canada.
  6. And finally SNEAD/SNEADE from Broseley way. John SNEAD's family b:1850 in benthall.

Thanks Sam(antha)

Hello Sam,

My ancestors were WINCOTTs from the areas you are researching.

3x gt.grandfather, William WINCOTT married Sarah Hancock at Brailles in 1803.

2x gt.grandfather, William, was born in1808 at Whatcote and married Lydia GROVES there in 1831.

Gt. grandfather, Robert was born at Whatcote in 1837 and married Jane HOBDAY at Smethwick in 1861.

My grandfather, Edgar, was born at Oldbury in 1881 and married Sarah Ann STOKES at West Bromwich in 1903.

Let me know if you have a connection, or if you want any more information.

Hi jan,

I can't believe it! My 5x gt,grandfather is too william Wincott! However I come from his daughters line :Sarah Wincott. How mad is that to find we're so directly related. I'd love to compare notes with you and research more. I'm having trouble deciphering who were Williams parents? Have you visited whatcote, whichford, brailes? I can't wait to speak more.

Hello again,

It's a small world, isn't it, but when Whatcote was mentioned I thought you were probably connected!

Yes, I have Sarah's details & presume that you are descended from her son, Matthew, who married Mary Gilkes in 1850 at Whatcote; children were Clark, Ann, William, Betsy & George. I think there must have been a Clark further back, as it is unusual and carries on through my line too.

I'm sorry I can't give you any info on William's parentage. My cousin & I have been researching this line for years & although we know William died in 1851 at Whatcote (I have his death certificate), aged 87,  we can find no record of his birth. He was a farmer in the early 1800's and seemed to have a lot of land that he leased to a John Lane for 12 years in 1804 and also had an auction of animals & household furniture in 1805 at Brailles, so think he was quite well off then. At his death his occupation was a gentleman, so it didn't seem as if the money had run out by then!

I visited Brailles & Whatcote 20 years ago and went in the churches there - lovely villages and quite near the site of the battle of Edgehill in the Civil War. We had our lunch at The Royal Oak at Whatcote! I haven't been since as we live near Chester.

Can't believe that you are a Wincott. Our line died out from my Uncle and my mother ( Edgar's children), as all their children were girls!

Hi I'm William PERKS' son Gareth PERKS, my Dad passed away a few years ago and my grand parents, Ida and John, I never got to meet as they died before I was born.
I know very little about my family in Broseley so cannot help.
Would be nice to know the family
